There is something exciting about the city in Autumn. The weather has turned colder, and here in the Pacific Northwest there is a looming threat of rainfall on almost any day. This makes for dramatic city scenes, more directional light slanting through the buildings, and a fresher sense of life after the days of unrelenting sunlight and heat.

Cities are great for snapshots anytime, because the details are always changing and there are fresh surprises anytime to the person willing to look for them.

The best thing I have found taking snapshots in the city is that I need not feel constrained by the traditional needs of street photography: interesting subjects, the decisive moment, limited areas where there is enough going on. If you have limited time in the city, it can be hard to find anything that conforms to the street photography genre. Snapshots, however, still have value in commenting on human existence. They are just smaller moments, finer details of the street and the intersection of humanity with the city. Perhaps seen with a humbler eye. But, in any case, snapshots in the city allow for a lot of enjoyment in the process for this photographer.
